  • How'd you do that? Apps for Social Media Graphics

You ever have something to say but can't ever seem to find the right image quote to fit what you're feeling or you want to make a creative post incorporating your own images?  Or you if you're a small business or influencer you want something that fits your brand while sharing information (be it inspirational, for a laugh or whatever). Well I thought I'd share a couple of my favorites..like one's I actually use and have installed on my phone. Canva This literally might be my number one go to app.  You can create just about anything in it and you really don't have to know much about graphic design or anything!  I initially was using Canva online as that's where they started, but when they created the app..can you say game changer?? Being able to create things on the fly and being able to access things you created online is *insert some made up adjective for awesome here*  :) Seriously though anything you can think of and some things that you can't (they've got templates for you too). Overlays, frames, shapes, colors, fonts...Canva has it, and did I mention it's free?? You can get the Canva App for free on iOS and it' coming soon to Android..you can sign up to get notified when it does here. Adobe SparkPost When you think of graphics, design or anything of that sort automatically Adobe should come to mind. For quite a while they held the strings on graphic design and still hold a relatively large chunk of the market.  But as all things must evolve and change with the times so did Adobe.  They started making apps to help the creative that was working from their phone.  Adobe SparkPost is similar to Canva but with a household name behind it.  You can make your posts with tons of graphic options (because it's Adobe duh). You also have the option to animate your posts! So it gives them a little something extra. I also love the fact that you can resize the post to fit IG Stories, so whatever you're trying to share fits in that screen, seriously for a bit that was bugging me.  This app is also free and is available on iOS (sorry Android it's coming sign up to be notified here). There are tons of graphics apps out there but I these are my go-to's, do you guys have favorites? Are you gonna add these to your arsenal? They are free so no money lost if you do, and they'll probably benefit your online presence.

  • Futurama Ipsum & Some Styling

Fry! Stay back! He's too powerful! I don't 'need' to drink. I can quit anytime I want! Hello, little man. I will destroy you! Kids have names? You won't have time for sleeping, soldier, not with all the bed making you'll be doing. When the lights go out, it's nobody's business what goes on between two consenting adults. Heading 1 Heading 2 Heading 3 Heading 4 Heading 5 Heading 6 Who's brave enough to fly into something we all keep calling a death sphere? Ummm…to eBay? Oh sure! Blame the wizards! Hello, little man. I will destroy you! I've been there. My folks were always on me to groom myself and wear underpants. What am I, the pope? Leela's gonna kill me. Ooh, name it after me! Leela, are you alright? You got wanged on the head. Fry, we have a crate to deliver. Hello, little man. I will destroy you! Yes, I saw. You were doing well, until everyone died. Check it out, y'all. Everyone who was invited is here. But I know you in the future. I cleaned your poop. I'm sure those windmills will keep them cool. No! The cat shelter's on to me. And remember, don't do anything that affects anything, unless it turns out you were supposed to, in which case, for the love of God, don't not do it! I don't 'need' to drink. I can quit anytime I want! Who am I making this out to? What's with you kids? Every other day it's food, food, food. Alright, I'll get you some stupid food. Who am I making this out to? I'm sure those windmills will keep them cool. Then throw her in the laundry room, which will hereafter be referred to as "the brig". Kids have names? Come, Comrade Bender! We must take to the streets! Shut up and get to the point! Have you ever tried just turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them? Who are those horrible orange men? Son, as your lawyer, I declare y'all are in a 12-piece bucket o' trouble. But I done struck you a deal: Five hours of community service cleanin' up that ol' mess you caused. I'll tell them you went down prying the wedding ring off his cold, dead finger. Maybe I love you so much I love you no matter who you are pretending to be. Who said that? SURE you can die! You want to die?! That's not soon enough! I guess if you want children beaten, you have to do it yourself. No, I'm Santa Claus! Shut up and take my money! Ooh, name it after me! You, a bobsleder!? That I'd like to see! Bender, hurry! This fuel's expensive! Also, we're dying! We need rest. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised. So, how 'bout them Knicks? Humans dating robots is sick. You people wonder why I'm still single? It's 'cause all the fine robot sisters are dating humans! But existing is basically all I do! Incidentally, you have a dime up your nose. Well I'da done better, but it's plum hard pleading a case while awaiting trial for that there incompetence. Then throw her in the laundry room, which will hereafter be referred to as "the brig". No argument here. But I know you in the future. I cleaned your poop. What's with you kids? Every other day it's food, food, food. Alright, I'll get you some stupid food. Well, let's just dump it in the sewer and say we delivered it. Bender, quit destroying the universe! You don't know how to do any of those. Perhaps, but perhaps your civilization is merely the sewer of an even greater society above you! Hey! I'm a porno-dealing monster, what do I care what you think? Wow, you got that off the Internet? In my day, the Internet was only used to download pornography. And yet you haven't said what I told you to say! How can any of us trust you? Why am I sticky and naked? Did I miss something fun?

  • AR Apps you should be using in iOS 11

So it's been almost two weeks since Apple's latest iOS dropped.  iOS 11 came packed with quite a few cool features. One that got alot of applause is the Augmented Reality advances.  Augmented Reality (AR for short) by definition is the integration of digital information with the user's environment in real time. But how can you, the user, take advantage of this particular capability? I've found a few cool apps within the apps store that'll help you really take advantage of it! MeasureKit First AR based app is AR MeasureKit.  The name gives you a pretty good idea of what this one does...it measures.  But you're doing this with your phone! Open up the app and move it around a little to get it calibrated, tap on the screen to start measuring. Then move your phone across like you would if you were using a pencil on paper. So left, right, diagonal.  I used mine to measure my Macbook Pro just for kicks but I really wish I had this when I was hanging stuff on the walls in our new place *insert wall slide here*.  I was using a ruler and making extra light lines and dots with a pencil..don't judge me.  The AR Measure Kit app is free to download from the App Store.  If you do lots of DIY or home improvement types of projects or you're just an overall crafty kind of person this Ikea Place Did someone say Ikea?? The Swedish furniture maker has jumped in the AR ring by creating an app designed around this amazing technology. No this app isn't going to tell you how to successfully put any of the furniture together *I wish* but it will help you figure out prior to your struggle if that dresser you're eyeing will make sense in the guest room.  The Ikea Place app allows you to virtually place items in your space! How cool is that? I've already downloaded the app and when we get ready to buy our house oh it's getting used! Maybe I could do some redecorating before then??  The Ikea Place app is free in the App Store. One more before you go... Sky Guide AR Now I haven't personally downloaded this one yet, but as a kid (and even now as an adult) there was something fascinating about being able to look up and see the stars.  I used to be able to tell you where the big dipper and Orion's Belt were but I was also living outside of the city too.  But anyway..Sky Guide AR allows you to actually find the constellations, planets and even where the Space Station is using your phone.  There's even alot of interesting facts included to help sharpen your astronomy skills.  This app is $2.99 from the App Store. If $2.99 isn't something you want to spend on an app, there's a free app called Sky View Free that will allow the same thing and I did download this one.  I'm going to test it out in an open field somewhere and let you know how it goes, you just can't really enjoy (or see) stars under the city lights. Soo what are you waiting for, go download some apps and take advantage of this AR tech!

  • Fall in the palm of your hand..Little Debbie Caramel Apple Oatmeal Creme Pies

It's officially fall...at least according to the calendar anyway. Now don't get me wrong I'm a summer baby so I'm alright with some extra warm days.  But there is something about fall that I look forward to besides cute boots and that's food! That wasn't really hard to figure out though was it? So as you guys know I'm an ambassador for Little Debbie and one of the perks is getting to test out the new snacks. Little Debbie's Caramel Apple Oatmeal Creme Pies is the snack I didn't know I needed! Every time summer comes to an end the only thing that makes me really excited is that I know caramel apples will start showing up in stores soon.  Little Debbie's Caramel Apple Oatmeal Creme Pies put my favorite fall snack in my hand and get rid of the stick.  This little treat has all the flavor of that traditional fall snack neatly packaged in the form of a cookie.  It's not an overpowering taste, it's just enough of both the caramel and apple flavors. Now that isn't to say I've traded them in for my caramel apples..I've had several packs of those already this current fall season.  But it's a nice addition to my snack stash and I think my husband likes them too.  So you guys when you see these on the shelf do yourself a favor and grab a box...not saying this as an ambassador saying it as someone who loves food.  Trust me my midsection can verify this lol.  What are some of your favorite snacks for the fall? Have you seen any of the new Little Debbie Snacks in the stores?  What did you think?

  • Ready for my closeup, I made the news!

Mama I made it! So a few weeks ago, I had a news segment on ABC 7's Good Morning Washington to share tips on how to get your kids tech ready for back to school! This was a huge deal for me, considering my fear of public speaking.  Not to mention it was my first time on TV! Everyone at the station was so nice and the can I just that morning show runs like a well oiled machine. I was expecting lots of cliche "Quiet on the set" but nope, you could tell they're pros.  I didn't know who I was going to be interviewing with but Veronica Johnson just flowed, like she helped me feel at ease and once we started talking about tech that was all she wrote lol.  She couldn't believe it was my first live segment. So for those of you that didn't get to see the segment click the link to watch the segment in it's entirety http://wjla.com/features/good-morning-washington/chicdivagreekcom-shows-how-to-tech-the-halls-this-year-without-breaking-the-bank

  • In Case You Missed it...Apple Event Recap

Morning! So much to share following Apple's Annual September event yesterday so I will spare you my stories and things for now...let's get into what was announced and what you may have missed! Don't worry I'll start with the good stuff first.... iPhone(s)...yes you read that right more than one! We were all expecting Apple to announce a new phone, they have been doing this for a decade now, same pattern, nothing new right?  But we always wait with baited breath for the features of said new phone and how it will look.  Well they didn't disappoint.  First up was the iPhone 8 (makes sense if you're following numerical order, right?).  The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus will be made of glass on both the front and the back. *Invest in a good case now if you're upgrading* But the bezel is aluminum.  It is also engineered to be both waterproof and dustproof.  It'll come in three colors, Space Gray, Silver, and Gold.  They'll also have HD Retina displays on both models. But wait, somehow they managed to improve the camera on this model *glares at my 6s as I simultaneously try to find a way to drop it*.  Both models come with a 12 megapixel camera with a faster sensor, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), and deeper pixels for taking way better photos and in better detail!  Oh and did I mention that it will be able to take 4K video?? So not only better pictures but better video too! Oh and if you get the iPhone 8 Plus, it now comes with Portrait Lighting..those amazing photos taken in Portrait Mode will have the equivalent to studio lighting in the palm of your hand! But moving along to a feature that I've been waiting for what seems like forever...WIRELESS CHARGING! It was a long time coming but the new iPhone will have it.  The wireless charging works with Qi technology and Apple even announced the AirPower charging mat that will be able to charge your new phone, Apple Watch 3, and the new air pods. And while I was all wrapped up in nerdy excitement, thinking this new phone is gonna be great! Apple says but wait there's more....the Apple iPhone X (Pronounced "ten" not "X").  I know you guys may be thinking they skipped 9 in the number sequence right? Well this year marks the 10 year anniversary of the iPhone so this was fitting.  Of course this has the bar set for it out the gate, it's a marker for the iPhone itself and well you can't follow-up the announcement of the iPhone 8 with something less right? The iPhone X comes with everything you'd get in the 8 but better, it has Super Retina Display, edge to edge OLED screen.  They've completely removed the home button but who needs that when you can unlock your phone with your face?? Yes the iPhone X comes with FaceID. With the help of the TrueDepth camera system on the front, it will use infrared camera, dot projector and a flood illuminator (so it work in the dark) to recognize your face and unlock your phone just by looking at it. Oh and that TrueDepth camera system on the front..with the 7 megapixel camera brings Portrait mode to your selfies!! So selfies are about to be taken up another notch (well if you get the iPhone X). Oh and I forgot a little fun feature, Animojis, emojis that take on your facial expressions, and they can be sent with your words too! So when can you get your hands on these new devices? The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus orders open this Friday September 15th and will be available on September 22nd.  Retail prices start at $699 for the 64GB model.  The iPhone X will be available to order on October 27th, and in stores November 3rd, retail starting at $999.  Both will run the new iOS 11. iOS 11 in it's official form will be available September 19th! Apple Watch and Watch OS 4 So iPhone wasn't the only Apple device getting new family members yesterday, Apple also announce Apple Watch series 3.  Now I'm not a watch person at all, not even a bracelet person really but the most exciting development for the Apple Watch has to be that it will have cellular capability independent of the iPhone! It no longer has to be tethered to your phone to make phone calls, answer messages, etc.  It won't have another number it will use the same number you have for your iPhone so no worries there. Another feature I thought worth noting since heart issues are so prevalent especially in the black community is the Heart Rate app, which comes in Watch OS 4. It will be able to detect it your heart rate elevates while you're not purposely being active such as working out, physically exerting yourself.  It will then alert you.  If you're going to be using this device for workouts and training your heart plays a huge part in that.  So kudos to Apple. The Apple Watch Series 3 can be ordered this Friday September 15th and will be available September 22nd. Retail pricing starting at $399. Whew but if you wish to go back and watch the keynote in it's entirety or just want to relive it for nerd euphoria you can watch it here. Soooo should I aim for the iPhone 8 Plus or the iPhone X? Decisions...Decisions...which one will you get? Are you gonna get the new Apple Watch?

  • Favorite features in iOS 11

September has arrived and you know what that means right?? Besides back to school, it means that the next official iOS is rolling out! So of course because I've been testing the beta version and this one is going to be a good one! So I thought I'd share my favorite features with you so far! Screen Recording Yes we can take screenshots, but this new feature is a huge bump for those of us that like to share how-to's and overall easier content creating period!  I really think this is my FAVORITE feature. Think about not having to drudge through each step to help that not so tech-savvy family member or friend.  I'm sure there are a few other ways this can be used like when you're trying to share a video on your phone but can't upload it or download it (not in a piracy kind of way guys Control over the Control Center You know that little menu you swipe up from the bottom of the screen..yeah that one.  I like that in iOS 11 you can add things to it or remove them! If I don't want the camera or flashlight there I can remove them.  Now the standard parts like the music, bluetooth, wifi can't be removed but that's not a big deal and quite frankly for quick access they should remain. Save Passwords feature There's a vault if you will for your passwords, if you're like me and chances you are if you've got a smartphone of any kind.  You can now store passwords for different sites on your phone.  If you work in an enterprise environment you may be familiar with this type of technology.  And you need touch ID enabled to access it so it's not simply knowing the passcode you created to get in there. Notes --- Not new but improved! You can now do more with your notes! You can scan receipts, take pictures or video directly from within notes or add photos from your camera roll! Sometimes you need to do a bit more when taking notes and this definitely helps, you can even add tables into it.  Productivity boost! iMessage Now I'm sure you thought I was about to go right into raving about new emojis right? Not quite even though I love a good emoji and the engineer and the face palm girl are my favorites lol. But the improved accessibility to apps designed with iMessage capabilities is really good! You can access the app store for iMessage directly while composing a message and the developers are getting in on this too, by adding the functionality to apps, like Cash App, Starbucks, and more.  Who wouldn't want to open a iMessage a see a Starbucks gift card??? My husband and I are preparing to navigate the home buying process and I can access the homes I saved in Zillow and share them via iMessage! *excuse my adult excitement lol* There are sure to be a ton of announcements today as the Apple Event goes live at 1pm EST/10am PT. Make sure you come back and check my recap that will be live tomorrow or follow me over on Twitter as I'll be live tweeting @ChicDivaGeek

  • The Honeydue app aims to help couples manage money better, together

The dreaded F word..not not a four letter one, but FINANCES. We know money isn't everything but not having it or mismanagement of the money we have can cause problems for us individually and for couple it can place a strain on the relationship.  Well Honeydue (ya know like the "Honey Do" list you hear some couples joke about) is an app that aims to help couples manage their money better...together. What does it do? The Honeydue app allows couples to share their bank account balances, track spending, and track bills from one app.  Most couples don't necessarily share the same bank, and then there are some that have a huge spreadsheets to manage bills and budgets. Excel for the wonders it works drives me crazy, it's like I get cross-eyed from staring at it for too long.  The idea of budgeting this way is just something I could never get into.  This isn't a bad concept since most things are done from your phone nowadays anyway. Other features of Honeydue: Allows you to send a thumbs up to encourage your partner's spending habits, or choose from 6 other emojis, or send a full text comment. So giving it a little social media appeal. Categorizes your spending. Supports of 10,000 US banking institutions. Touts layers of security to ease your concerns about your financial information: SSL &TLS (Secure Socket Layer & Transport Layer Security), use of passcode, touchID, and multi-factor authentication. The best part about this app is it's free!  I currently use a planner and write out bills and my husband and I are on the same page when it comes to bills, and paying things on time. But if this is a spot of stress or if you're looking for a way to merge things and make it easier maybe this app could be just what you're looking for.  Honeydue is available on iOS and Android. ~ChicDivaGeek

  • Out and About with ChicDivaGeek...at The Black Alumni Networking Expo

This weekend thousands of black college graduates convened on the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Washington, DC for the Black Alumni Networking Expo.  A day full of networking, workshops, and an expo full of vendors all aimed at encouraging professional development, diversity in working world and helping black graduates thrive! The highlight of the expo for me was the Career in Tech Panel...I mean obviously right? The Career in Tech panel, presented by Geico, featured William Morris, Founder of EdConnective (an organization that provides instructional feedback for teachers); Sixto Cancel, CEO and Founder of Think of Us, a non -profit that uses technology to help improve the lives of kids that are aging out the foster care system; Katherine Mereand, Program Manager of Tech and Innovation in the Department of Small and Local Business Development in DC; and JT Logan, Owner and Creative Director at Four Deep Multimedia, LLC, a Marketing and Advertising firm. As well as a representative from Geico. The panel fielded questions for recent and upcomping graduates on how they can work their way into the IT industry as well as offered perspectives on some of the current moves being made in IT today.  The topic of diversity came up and well, for me this was a key topic.  Especially with the recent incident with the Google Engineer.  There was on open dialogue about how Black people aren't really dominant in the field , and it's not because we can't do the work. "Don't be afraid to go to those places that are not so diverse. There's a certain level of comfort among our peers, and to step into other networks where it's 97 percent white male conferences, don't be afraid to step into those spaces and hold your own, there are opportunities in those spaces " That hit home for me...because I am black and I'm a female in IT and sooo often I go to conferences and things and I stand out, but some of my best opportunities have come from these spaces and not being afraid to speak up for myself.  The panelists also touched on getting a mentor, and reaching out to those who are now in the technology field for advice and guidance. Also a note, don't reach out just once, follow up! I left feeling motivated and I've been in the field 10+ years!  I suggest if you have never attended the Black Alumni Networking Expo that you do so, oh and I forgot the most important thing..this event was free! So don't deny yourself the opportunity to enrich yourself especially if you're a recent or upcoming graduate. I wish this event had been around when I graduated!  Did you attend? What panels and workshops did you find valuable? ~ChicDivaGeek

  • Cruising with ChicDivaGeek: My Week with the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

Can you believe it's already August?? Well while June and July went by in the blink of an eye, I did get the opportunity to test out the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander right around the 4th of July holiday!  It wasn't a huge change from what I normally drive as I have a small SUV but I definitely enjoyed it and well, enough about how I felt, let me get into what it was like and the features! First thing's first... As I always say we are in the age of the "Internet of Things" so almost everything is getting technology improvements. The 2017 Outlander SEL is no different.  It came loaded with lots and I do mean lots of buttons, cool features but we'll get to that because I had one moment that made absolutely no sense...I couldn't find the lever to open the gas tank It literally took a google search for me to find the gas tank release, and I found it in a YouTube tutorial so clearly not the only person having this problem.  But it's flush against the floor of the driver's side and it matched the black interior.  So that could use a little tweaking...but on to the things I enjoyed about this vehicle, because that list is much longer. On to the good things I've driven a few of the newer model cars and they all are about safety (well I mean the older ones are too) but what I mean is that they come equipped with improved safety features.  Such as the camera system, I mean I couldn't screw up parking if I wanted to, it gave me a full rear view look and an over head view! Seriously where was this technology when I was taking my driver's test?  Not to mention it had the lane departure system and in the traffic nightmare that is the DC area, it came in handy.  Did I mention it came with XM included on it, now I also don't know what it is about a car with leather interior that always makes it feel more expensive and luxurious, but the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL came with black leather interior and what's leather interior without heated seats? Now granted this test drive was done in July soooo I had no need for them, but if you're gonna have them that feature just makes sense.  But the dual zone climate control makes for the perfect temperature if one of you has appendages that tend to take on a frostbite like temperature after too much AC *looks in the mirror*. The gas mileage in this thing for it to be larger than my truck is good (despite not being able to locate the lever at first lol), this particular model the SEL, get's 24 city/29 highway MPG.  And did I mention that I loved the power liftgate? I could open the trunk before I got to it, and didn't have to juggle with balancing things in one hand to get it open...I'm a mom and a wife, our family is always on the go and grocery or any shopping period is easier with this feature. My absolute favorite feature on this vehicle..don't laugh is the remote power lift gate, I'm easily amused sometimes and well loading the truck was wayyyy easier! I did most of my normal errands in it and as I'm always on the go. I must say it definitely made me want a new truck again, it even runs quieter than my truck.   The 2017 Mitsubushi Outlander SEL retails $27,495. Not too shabby in terms of price and for all the bells and whistles you're getting.  Oh and did I mention it came with a sunroof? I currently don't have one but the next vehicle I get that's gonna be a selling point! *Disclosure: The car was lent to me in exchange for my review, opinions are my own*

  • "One ring to rule them all...All your digital needs that it..the Token Ring

Morning! Sorry I couldn't resist the Lord of the Rings pun with this post.  Jewelry has a purpose and that's to accent your outfits, give it some flair right? Well this particular piece of jewelry has more than one purpose, and we all know that I'm here for wearable tech!  Now some of it is more tech than fashion and that can make it hard to appeal to the masses but the Token Ring seems to get it right. The Token ring seeks to make your digital life easier by taking the work out of some of the things you do daily. Token will allow you to declutter your mind with the millions of passwords you have to remember, act as a means of payment instead of fumbling for your credit card, get you on your train to work by acting as a transit pass, and even start your car! Pretty cool right?  But how does it work? When it comes to using Token for your passwords; it will use Web Authentication API.  Token is a member of the FIDO Alliance, which has been working with W3C to replace passwords with cryptographic authentication which will be supported across all browsers.  You'll be able to knock two times and log into your accounts with Token. Can't keep up with your keys, it can help with that too.  Now if your car uses an actual physical, turning key then this won't work but if you've got push to start then you're able to use Token with the help of the Token CarLock, you have to send one of your keys in exchange to sync it with the car. Once you get it plug the CarLock into your car and two knock unlock your car, then you get in and start your car. These are just a couple of the features it seeks to streamline and handle for you! Toke used in Car (Photo: Token)From the makers of Token "As consumers of the internet, we’ve become fatigued by the constant fear that our data and digital identity will be compromised by cybercriminals. And unfortunately, the problem is only getting worse. So many of the physical things we use to identify ourselves are being replaced by digital versions, which piles more credentials on top of the accounts we’re already struggling to keep secure." The overall concept is great, I don't know how many times I've forgotten a password, or couldn't find my keys, on the fence about paying with it as I'm someone who hasn't even attempted to use Apple Pay.  I love the convenience but I always think that if there is someone who can create it, there is someone who can hack it you know? But technology in and of itself is about applying knowledge for practical purposes, and making things more convenient.   The Token is currently available for pre-sale and will ship in December of this year.  It comes in 3 finishes, Brushed, 14K Rose Gold, and Black Rhodium, it retails for $249. It's an investment so if you buy it I'm sure you'll have plans to use it.  It's currently only available in the US and the site says globally soon.  If you want to find out more or order yourself a next generation piece of jewelry go here --> Tokenize.com ~ChicDivaGeek
