  • Foodini: The 3-D Food Printer

Photo credit: Natural Machines Facebook Profile By now I think we've all heard of 3-D printers, but one company has combined two of my favorite things, food and technology! Well here's Foodini: 3-D Food printer by Natural Machines. Now of course I am sure the first thing that popped into your head was it really prints food, and to be honest, my mind went straight to the Jetsons when I found out about this too; but the Foodini is more similar to a very high tech kitchen appliance and I mean that in a good way. It won't just print food off your screen but you place your fresh ingredients into the printer (they have capsules inside) and then it prints out the food, not cooked of course. But can your laser printer make a pizza? The machine is still in development and is expected to be out around mid-2014. The cost of such a device, around $1,300. Check out some of their food examples below! Photo credit: Natural Machines Facebook Profile Photo Credit: Natural Machines Facebook Profile The device is currently being developed in Barcelona. I'm no Rachel Ray in the kitchen, so if I can get a gadget that helps me out, then why not? And I'm a mom, so pizza and burgers are always a hit with my kid Natural Machines

  • Windows 8

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 8 will officially launch on October 26, 2012. This is the next chapter following the successful Windows 7 OS. Initially thought to only be a tablet operating system, it is being pushed for both Desktop computers and tablets, have you seen the new operating system yet? Microsoft.com has Windows 8 release preview so you can test it out before it's released and see if it's worth you upgrading to. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/release-preview Granted you do have to do a clean install and please keep in mind that this is a pre-release so all of the bugs have not been worked out and all hardware and software may not work yet, as drivers are being developed. Another neat fact, Microsoft is offering a $40 upgrade option to owners of licenesed copies of Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 through January 31, 2013. This offer is also extended to those who have installed the Windows 8 release preview.

  • Gamer Post: Nintendo's Wii U

copyright Nintendo Are you a Gamer, do you have kids, or just thoroughly enjoy a way to have fun, well this post may be for you. Nintendo's newest game console, the Wii U, will be available this holiday season. Now I am sure the first thought is what makes this any different from the Wii? Well if you've looked at my picture, then there is an immediate difference, there is a component that looks like a handheld game device beside the console. But there are many other features that make this a very attractive console to buy this year: The console itself has been slimmed down to allow it to blend in with more with the home as well as making it easier to find a space for it. The Wii U has internal flash memory, in addition to SD cards and external USB drives Like it's predecessor, it will also have Wireless connectivity Backwards compatibility, meaning you will be able to play all your original Wii games on the new Wii U system (This is huge to me, nothing worse than having to get rid of your games or let them collect dust when buying a new system) Those are some of the techs, but what about that new controller? That is known as the GamePad. Not only does it function as a controller, but it has a 6.2 inch LCD touch screen. It also has motion control capabilities, a front facing camera, microphone, stereo speakers, and rumble features. It also serves as an infrared remote. There are at least 20 game titles slated to be released for the new console, such as Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed III, and what would a Nintendo system be without a new Super Mario Bros. So will the Wii U be on your 2012 holiday shopping list? Head over to Nintendo and check out more details and other game titles. Nintendo Wii U E3 presentation

  • Good Music: Open Window Effect

Now I know you are thinking, what is that strange little man doing right there?? But just read a little more and I will tell you...... It is rare in this day and age to get a solid album that you are not constantly skipping through. Well my ears have had the pleasure of coming across X-Kalibur's, The Open Window Effect. X-Kalibur is an artist from the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, more specifically Prince George's County, MD, and The O.W.E (Open Window Effect) is his follow-up to the Fresh Air mixtape. The album is solid and delivers some insightful lyrics over smooth beats. The beats are great, but they don't overpower the lyrics. If you are looking to add some good music to your iPod, MP3 player or iPhone, then you definitely want to add this to your collection. Check out the link to the download below, and you can listen to it before you download it: Listen or Download The O.W.E

  • Troubleshooting files: iTunes and AVG Anti-virus

So as a tech aficionado I do preach making sure that your computer is updated, including individual programs and also making sure you have some type of antivirus/security program to protect your computer. Recently in the midst of my computer cleanup and updating I finally ran the update to iTunes 11.0.2, and aside from the interface change that I wasn't fond of, it seemed fine. But a few days later I went to import some new music and noticed that my entire iTunes library was gone!!!!!!!!!!!! The horror!!!!! So of course I complained for a few minutes and then spent the rest of the night trying to figure out why it happened as I didn't do anything other than upgrade to last version of iTunes. After some internet forum trolling I found out that the latest version of iTunes and the latest incarnation of AVG Free 2013 don't play well together. The resident shield option, which essentially realtime scans the computer and is the core of the Antivirus program was somehow causing the backup of iTunes to fail and thus when this happens the operation is halted and iTunes starts from scratch with no information unless you have all of your songs, apps, and other information backed up to iCloud. A few modifications may have helped but the better solution was to remove AVG from my system. In regards to the missing iTunes library, I found a older backup file before I upgraded the iTunes and moved it to the iTunes system folder and everything was back to normal without me having to reimport all of my music. Now of course I couldn't be without AV protection so I installed AVAST! antivirus, it's still free and does the same job if not better. But most importantly it doesn't nuke my iTunes library! Feel free to comment if you have questions or if this has happened to you. To download AVAST: http://www.avast.com/

  • Lenovo ThinkPad 8 Tablet

Photo Credit: Lenovo The noise from CES 2014 has finally subsided and I have a chance to catch my breath. There was enough new technology there to put any nerd into shock! But one of the things that caught my attention was the newly announced Lenovo ThinkPad 8 tablet. Lenovo was among the many presenters at the conference and they didn't disappoint (more on the other products to come). I often get asked by friends what's a good tablet, and for many they just want one for playing games, running apps, checking email, etc. But I have some friends who are looking for one that will allow for both work and play. After getting to read up on the Lenovo ThinkPad 8, I think I now have another suggestion for them other than the Surface or iPad. This tablet is similar to Microsoft Surface in that it runs Windows 8 and comes with Microsoft Office; this is a HUGE benefit for those that want to be able to work on the go or be able to play a few games just to pass time. This tablet weighs less than 1 lb but it definitely packs a wallop! It touts a beautiful 8.3" display with 1920x1200 pixels and HD IPS display. Not to mention that it has Micro USB 3.0, Micro SD, for storage expansion and transferring of files; and Micro HDMI port (This allows you to connect your tablet to HD displays and monitors for easy presenting) The release date and pricing for the tablet isn't available yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I know! Check out this hands on video courtesy of Tech Radar! Lenovo ThinkPad 8

  • Playstation Now: Streaming video game service from Sony

Sony, the creator of PlayStation, announced the new video game streaming service PlayStation Now at CES 2014. This is following the outstanding sales of the company's latest console release, the PlayStation 4, the system has sold 4.2 million units since it's November 2013 release. PlayStation Now is a video game streaming service from Sony that will allow you to stream video games, more noticeably older video games on almost any platform. The service is subscription based, so think if Spotify and Netflix had a kid, if that makes sense. That is essentially how it works. The service does offer rentals. When the service becomes available it will initially start with streaming PS3 games to PS4, PS3, PlayStation Vita, and the newest line of Sony Bravia TVs. The service is cloud based, and Sony has not announced if it will be bringing PS2 and PS One games to the service, but you never know. The PlayStation now service will eventually be available on mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) but no date has been given. The service is slated for release this summer. There is also no pricing information at this time. If you want to get the latest news from Sony about PlayStation Now, you can sign up here: http://us.playstation.com/playstationnow/ P.S.: It is also reported that GameStop shares dropped when this news was released. ~ChicDivaGeek
