- Get your feet wet in Podcasting with the Anchor App
Interested in journalism, looking for a new way to connect with your audience? Or perhaps you've been thinking about starting a podcast on something that interests you, well maybe downloading the Anchor app will help with that.... Anchor The name app should have made you think of a news reporter and not a ship. Well if you were thinking news then you would be on the right track. The Anchor app allows you to broadcast audio clips globally in an instant! The audio clips can be up to two minutes. So think of it as a podcast, but on a smaller and more interactive scale. The app allows for users to respond with their voice and you can reply to them as well, kind of neat right? I think this will grow considering the way apps such as Periscope have caught fire. It was listed as an app to watch coming out of SXSW 2016 this year. It's currently only available for iPhone. ~ChicDivaGeek

- The AskDC App, an app every woman should have installed on her phone
In today's society it's common for girls to go out in groups, or meet up for drinks after work. In "walkable" cities, which DC is aiming to be, this is even more common. You can catch an Uber, a bus, train, or depending on where you live you can walk. But although we're independent navigating the city streets alone isn't always a safe option. But the AskDC app was designed to help provide an extra piece of safety right from your smartphone. The AskDC is a project of the Men Can Stop Rape and the DC Mayor's Office. With the app, you can get immediate access to emergency services in the event of sexual assault, confidentially and for free. It also provides information and access to legal services, resources and information for victims and survivors of sexual violence, as well as access to talk to real person 24/7. The app also has a panic button feature that will automatically dial 911 in case of emergency, as well as a function that will send emergency notifications and messages to selected contacts. AskDC app screen (Photo: App Store) AskDC screen (Photo: App Store) Along with the AskDC app, the UAskDC app was also developed to provide help to victims of sexual assault on any of the nine college campuses in DC. The app is practically identical to the AskDC app but is tailored with one additional feature which allows for the users to find on campus help. Like it's sister app, it offers these services confidentially and free. WPGC On-Air personality (M-F 10am-3pm), Sunni, hosted a an event at George Washington University last week centered on the app and had this to say about it "I love this app especially for women that are out and about on the social scene and dating. You have a panic button and a quick way to contact authorities in case you get into trouble. Also you can link as many friends as you want from your contacts and it will send your GPS location with the push of one button. Definite MUST download for my ladies" ~Sunni If you're near a computer you can also access these same resources online at www.assaultservicesknowledge.org. AskDC and UAskDC are available for both Android and iPhone. Just go to the Google Play store or the App Store for iPhone and search AskDC. You've got a million apps on your phone, why not actually have one on there that you need? ~ChicDivaGeek
- Take that Periscope, Facebook adding more features to Facebook Live
FB Pre-Live setup (Photo: Facebook) Live Streaming is becoming more and more popular so of course one of the largest platforms has to have a hand in it. Periscope is owned by Twitter, and at the end of last year Facebook rolled out Facebook Live for iOS with the Facebook Live feature rolled out to Android devices a little over a month ago. Now this isn't the breaking news if you have been on Facebook lately or at least in the past few months. What is notable right now are the new features that are being added. Now if you've done a live video or at least seen one of your Facebook friends do it, you know that you can comment and they can see your comments as well as the number of viewers, well today you can do more. At first it was limited to doing live with those you were friends with; now you can go live in groups and on Facebook Events, that's sounds like great news for marketing. I mean also if you in a group or manage a group of like minded thinkers they also don't have to download another app to join the broadcast. If you have an event, this can connect those that can't make it or you could make it an online event and connect with those people in a different way. This next feature probably excites people a little more because what are you using to watch the videos or look at photos, your eyes right? Well know you can add filters to your live videos, and eventually they will roll out the ability to draw on your video while you're live too!. They've also added the ability to use the reactions that are enabled on posts, pictures, and anything else that appears in your newsfeed to Live as well. The goal with these new features is to make it more engaging for those that use the Live feature and maybe get more people to try it. Oh and they have made it so that when you are watching a Live replay, the comments show up just as if you were watching it live. Live Filters and Drawing (Photo: Facebook) Live Playback (Photo: Facebook) Reactions on Facebook Live (Photo: Facebook) Did I mention that they are also allowing you to send invites to friends while you're live as well? So they won't miss out! Not to mention they will be including a new feed where you can find and search other live videos, so it allows you to find other great content. These features will be available on both iOS and Android soon! So, are you excited about the new Facebook Live features? Do you already use it? If so what features do you think they are missing? ~ChicDivaGeek
- It's Yelp for People..It's called Peeple
Remember a while back when there were rumblings of a "Yelp for people"? Well those rumblings are over and the Peeple app is here. The Peeple App was designed to allow people to give and receive recommendations on well..people. It allows you to rate people in three categories Personal, Professional, and Dating. The intent from creators, Nicole McMcullough and Julia Cordray, is "to change the way you learn about people online". You would think that with all the social media platforms out there that there are plenty of ways to learn about people, or going out to network is always an option as well. But there are some rules, this isn't just an opinionated free for all: One of the biggest concerns with this is that it would lead to cyber-bullying but there are some safeguards to this: You have to have an active Facebook Profile that has been active for more than 6 months to join. You must be 21 years or older to join Peeple. Recommendations never go live without your permission, so if the person (you) aren't on Peeple, those recommendations never go anywhere. There are no anonymous users on Peeple, so no ghost recommendations or spam profiles to worry about. Peeple Screen (Photo: App Store) Peeple Screen (Photo: App Store) Peeple Screen (Photo: App Store) There's comfort in the fact that you get to see all the reviews and approve them prior to them being live on the app, but then how authentic is that, if all you see are good things? Of course no one is going to want to post the bad reviews but then that is what makes things like Yelp, and other review processes good. The Peeple app is currently only available on iOS with an Android version expected soon. I don't think I'm signing up for Peeple, but would you? ~ChicDivaGeek
- Got good grades? Well turn them in for rewards with Kudzoo!
Kudzoo Logo (Photo: Kudzooapp.com) As a parent, you want your kids to get good grades, I know as a kid it was a precedent set in my house. I had a deal with my mom, she promised me $5 for every "A". Don't laugh that was alot back in the 90's when it added up. I myself am now a mother and I do like to reward my son for good grades, but what if there was an app that could do that too? Well Kudzoo is that app. It's really simple, you take a picture of your report card, upload it into the app and then it's reviewed by Kudzoo staff. After that they approve or deny it. If it's approved you get Kudzoo Cash (more or less reward points) that you can redeem in the shop section of the app. You can also earn more Kudzoo cash by completing a daily challenge. You can also earn more Kudzoo cash by referring your friends and entering your attendance. There's things like gift cards, deals for discounts, even experiences. - Be still our nerdy hearts...The sequel to The White Queen is happening!
The White Queen (Photo: Starz) First off hello!!! I've been away but starting back with this bit of news makes me sooo excited! If you're a Phillipa Gregory fan, as I am, then you'll be thrilled to know that Starz has given the greenlight to the sequel to The White Queen series! The original series, debuted back in 2013 and captured audiences immediately. The 10 episode series combined Gregory's books The White Queen, The Red Queen, and the Kingmaker's Daughter together. The sequel will pick up where these books/show ended with the next book The White Princess. I've already read the book and can't wait to see what Starz pulls off for this! I am hoping that Rebecca Ferguson will reprise her role as Elizabeth Woodville. ~ChicDivaGeek
