- Critical iOS update and why you should install it
Screenshot courtesy of ChicDivaGeek Apple released a critical update over the weekend for iPhone and iPad, iOS 7.0.6. It addresses a SSL vulnerability that would allow an attacker "with privileged network position" to capture and modify data protected by SSL. Basically the flaw makes your secure connections vulnerable to attack. So if you get the time, please install this update. Of course as with most updates, this requires most of us to clear out some space on our iOS devices prior to installing it.
- Latest update to Xbox One..A Black Screen
Photo: XBox/Microsoft Microsoft has long been the tech company associated with BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) when your computer fatally errors out or runs into a software/hardware issue. So perhaps they got bored, as the latest Xbox One update has been reportedly causing console owners to experience a black screen following the update. The update was released on Friday, Microsoft is aware of it and some users have powered down the console by holding down the power button or just unplugging it (sound familiar?) You can post your concerns on this thread if you've recently done the update as you are not alone in this This geek, still has her Xbox 360..thinking I may hold onto it a little longer ~ChicDivaGeek
- Beats Music
Photo credit: BeatsMusic twitter Yesterday while most of us were taking refuge from the snow storm, the Beats Music app launched. This is a music streaming service, that of course is from the company that brought us, Beats Audio, and quite frankly this is a natural extension. The company's speaker/audio technology spans from it's flagship "Beats by Dre" headphones to audio systems in cars and even smartphones. The service is similar to Spotify, but of course it appears to have a much larger music catalog. One of the features I find really unique about this music service is that it does genuinely try to tailor the music to the preferences that you've given it. When you first sign up it will ask you to pick genres of music you like, followed by a few artists then it generates playlist based off what you've chosen. But the coolest feature by far is "The sentence" feature, where you string together a sentence such as "I feel like starting a riot with zombies to The 80s"; the app then generates a playlist off the sentence! How cool is that? Here are a few of the songs I got from that playlist: Screenshot from ChicDivaGeek Screenshot from ChicDivaGeek The service however doesn't offer a offer a free option like Spotify or like Pandora Internet Radio. The service free for $9.99/month and some AT&T subscribers can get up to 90 days free if they are on a family plan, then it will be $14.99/month, this is offered through AT&T. It's free for 7 days if you want to try it. But this service is being marketed as a premium streaming service, so it doesn't look as if they plan on developing a free option anytime soon if at all. The app is available for iOS (iPhone/iPod), Android and Windows phones. ~ChicDivaGeek
- Meet Paper, the news reader app from Facebook
Photo credit: Facebook Facebook launched a new mobile app that is meant to well, help you get the latest news and stories based on your interests. It also allows for you to create your own stories. Paper merges together your news feed as well as stories of interest from well know publishers/news outlets. You can play videos from directly within the app, and articles have fully detailed covers to help you spot the stories that interest you. So it looks like Facebook's answer to the news reader, and it doesn't look half bad. The app will be available for iOS on February 3rd. Will you be downloading it? Check out the tour of the app here: Facebook Paper ~ChicDivaGeek
- iWatch Concept
Photo credit: Todd Hamilton There have been tons of ideas swirling about the what the new iWatch will look like, and although Apple has remained mum and nothing has leaked, this has to be one of the best concepts we've seen, courtesy of Todd Hamilton. I sure hope they take notice of this one! ~ChicDivaGeek
- Google Chromecast: What it is, and is it for you?
At first glance this looks like a USB flash drive, but it's not it's the Chromecast device from Google. The device plugs into the HDMI port on your HDTV and you can stream apps to your television. This is perfect for those of us who haven't made the transition to Smart TVs. You can stream Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO Go, and YouTube right to your TV (wireless internet is required) But how cool is that?? This sounds like a good investment if you are already a Netflix or other online streaming service subscriber and want to cut some of the cable costs. The device costs a mere $35 and you control it from your iOS or Android device or via the Cast extension in the Google Chrome browser on your laptop. Just be connected to the same WiFi network and your set. You can purchase it here Chromecast or find locate a local retailer. ~ChicDivaGeek
- Nostalgia: Tamagotchi L.I.F.E app
How many of you remember the digital pet era, I know when I was in high school, almost everyone had a virtual pet of some kind on their key chain or in their pocket. Look what I found in the AppStore this weekend! The Tamagotchi L.I.F.E app So of course I downloaded it right away, and have been trying to keep the poor thing alive ever since (forgot how much attention these things need) I had to reset it after the first day. This takes me back and of course my son's question is "what is that thing?" The app is free and available in the Apple AppStore and on Google Play. Check it out! Tamagotchi L.I.F.E app ~ChicDivaGeek

- On Second Thought App, The App That Let's You Undo Text Messages!
Have you ever had a text message that you wished you hadn't sent? Do you find yourself sending messages when you've had a few too many while out with the girls (or the guys)? Or you send the message meant for your significant other to your parents? Now I'm sure your situation isn't as drastic but everyone has at least had a typo courtesy of auto-correct. Well then the, On Second Thought app, is exactly what you need. This app allows you to send/receive text messages, but also to also edit them or recall a message before it makes it to the other person's phone. Funny thing is I have seen people ask for this app over and over. There is even a curfew feature, which allows you to compose messages but while curfew is in effect they won't be sent. But one of the coolest things about this app is the creator, Maci Peterson, and I got the chance to interview her! ChicDivaGeek: First off thank you for taking time out to talk to me Maci Peterson: Sure no problem CDG: How did you come up with the idea for the app? MP: "Well I was going on a first date with this guy, and we were going to get together in Maryland, but I wanted to move it to DC. So I text him and what I wanted to say was you are in DC or in MD? And he's a really strong Christian. But the auto-correct changed it to are you in DC or are you in me?" CDG: Ohhh nooo! MP: Yeah, he replied I am in MD at my grandmother's house, I'll see you in DC. CDG: Hopefully grandma wasn't over his shoulder when he read that CDG: Now that we've got the back-story on what inspired it, I wondered what inspired it, so let's get into my next question. I did a little digging on the app, I went to the site, by the way I love a functional website. I see that the app is currently in beta and is available Google Play, any plans to make it available migrate it towards iOS? Android is great but you have alot of Apple users out there, that's a huge market. MP: Yeah so there are over a billion Android users, and there are about 500 million iPhone users so we absolutely intend to be on that platform. I've been an iPhone user as long as there has been an iPhone. CDG: I know it's a little harder to get apps into the App Store so people tend to go with Google first. MP: It's not really that, but the Apple version is much more complex. CDG: Yeah, using the Apple SDK is a little more complicated. MP: Yeah, so we hope to have it out there by late spring, Memorial Day weekend. CDG: Right before all the shenanigans, that's perfectly timed! MP: Exactly, because you know people have their summer boos, things can get awkward. CDG: So how have you been spreading the word about the app, how are you spreading your message? Is it all kind of organic or kind of grown on it's own? MP: It's a bit of a hybrid, to date it's been mostly press. Thankfully we have one of those stories that people like to tell. And we're fixing a problem that pretty much everyone has. It has been a blessing, but mostly press. We have some fun new marketing strategies that we'll be deploying in the next few months but the public will see later this year. We going to be doing product placement in film and television. CDG: Owww, that is awesome! This young woman is phenomenal. She saw a need, and sought to fill it. So often we see the need or think of something and never act on it. I told her she's going to put BuzzFeed's text fails off the map with this creation of hers. Maci received 1st Place at The Kauffman Foundation and UpGlobal SXSW pitch competition in March of 2014, the app was the featured startup at The Summit conference in November 2014 as well as an exhibitor. She is also the Invited Featured BETA Startup, Collision Conference coming up in May of this year. So this young lady is on her way and I for one can't wait to see where she goes! If you have an Android device go and download the app now! ~ChicDivaGeek
